Study Design: Prospective, longitudinal data collection. Preterm infants hospitalized in UIHC NICU and up to 2 caregivers. Enrolled while in NICU and followed until 24-months corrected age.
Description: The PREMISE study is to longitudinally examine interactions between PReterm birth, Epigenetics, Metabolites, Infant Stress, and the Environment in neurodevelopment. At five different time points (around every six months), parents will complete a set of online questionnaires about parental mental health, household environment, and infant development, and infants will wear a device to capture the language and auditory environment they are exposed to for 16 hours. At two time points (12 and 24 months of age), infants will undergo a multi-method, multi-informant assessment, including developmental assessment, parent-child interaction activity, fNIRS neuroimaging, and collection of a saliva sample for genetic analyses.
